Discover the World of Shell Collecting: My Favorite Hobby

https://youtu.be/85yBL0zd_2E

I just wanted to share something that I’m super passionate about—probably my favorite hobby of all time: shell collecting. Traveling to different places to find these natural beauties is such a fulfilling experience. Whether it’s a sunny beach in Florida or the shores of North Carolina, every destination offers a unique treasure trove.

A Peek into My Shell Collection

My collection is filled with various types of shells, each with its own story. Let me walk you through some of my favorites:

  • Olive Shells: These are one of my all-time favorites. Their smooth texture and glossy finish make them stand out.
  • Lightning Whelks: I have some bigger ones, but the smaller welks are just as stunning. Their spiral shape is mesmerizing.
  • Turkey Wings: Yes, that’s what they’re called! Their distinct pattern resembles the feathers of a turkey.
  • Fossilized Sea Biscuits: These are super cool because they’re not just shells—they’re fossils! I found these beauties at Oldham Beach in North Carolina during a trip with my daughter a few weeks ago.
  • Scallops: Simple yet elegant, scallops add a classic touch to any collection.
  • Kitten’s Paws: These tiny shells are adorable and quite aptly named.
  • Jingle Shells: These shells are delicate and beautiful, each with a unique shimmer.

Rare Finds and Prized Possessions

While all shells are special, some hold a particularly cherished spot in my collection. For example:

  • Scotch Bonnet: This rare shell is actually the state shell of North Carolina, making it a prized possession in my collection.
  • Shark Eyes: These might look like regular snails, but they’re unique enough to be called shark eyes.
  • Banded Tulips: Their vibrant stripes are just mesmerizing, making them another one of my top favorites.
  • Conch Shells: These are possibly the biggest shells out there, and I’m so proud of the ones I have. They’re massive and beautiful, and cleaning them with vinegar and bleach has really made them shine.
